Whitman after being arrested

By Dismus Buregyeya

The Police in Kalangala district have arrested a German investor after he was found in possession of two kilograms of marijuana.

The district Police commander, Sam Omara, said Dick Rienner Whitman was arrested at his beach hotel last Thursday.

Whitman is the owner of Horn Bill Beach Hotel at Lutoboka landing site in Kalangala.

“We found Whitman smoking the drug when we netted him. We later searched his room and found another two kilograms of marijuana,” Omara said.

The southern region officer in charge of criminal investigations, Willy Panuha, said Whitman was handed over to the Masaka Chief Magistrates’ Court at about 4:00pm.

“We want to verify whether Witman was involved in drug trafficking,” he added.

Panuha said the internal affairs state minister, Matia Kasaija, had earlier instructed the Police to monitor Whitman and his British colleague only identified as Dominic.

“Dominic is wanted. He was supposed to be arrested at Entebbe Airport but he managed to escape. We want him in connection with drug trafficking,” he said.

Whitman pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was remanded at Masaka Prison until November 5.
