Completing The Big Round
Crossing the Uganda border and the Equator

071109 04:30 Departure in dark heading NW, wind SE 3-4, shift to afternoon W around 12:00, we cross Uganda border at 0o10'10" S 33o58'3" E 14:30, equator at  33o51'16" E 18:05, day log total: 87 km, Distance Made Good: 75 km. Captain's body deems atrium fibrillation the appropriate celebration. Quick and strong return of his bladder infection (antibiotic treatment finished two days earlier)

071110 04:00 Departure in dark heading WNW, wind SSW 3-4. Captain's bladder infection seems spontaneously killed at night, heart rhythm not normal yet.

12:00 winds veers to SW, we fail to pass Dagusi (a near North coast island) at our starboard side and decide to head, island port, for the coast.
15:30 Behind island wind backs again, but not enough for us to stay free of coast. Had we waited at our 12:00-position, we could, starting again 15:30, have left Dagusi starboard and could have continued. Our first tactical error during the trip. We are forced to moor against mainland 16:00. Fortunately for our piece of mind, at 17:00 wind veers back to W, so the gain of having done it right would have been limited. Only 36 km made good today, we are 50 km from Jinja..

071111 04:30 N 1-2, departure heading W. At 09:30 entering the channel to Jinja at Igwe Island, the captain's heart decides, after 30 hrs of partying, it is time to start behaving again. 10:40 we gibe for E 4-5, speed over 10 km/hrs. 13:45 After celebrating our arrival with a flare, we anchor at our home mooring Kingfisher, Source of the Nile, Jinja.

Photo: Back at our home mooring Kingfisher Safari Lodge, Source of the Nile, Jinja, Uganda. Sail off after 1325 km along all coasts of Lake Victoria in ... 80 days (see trip map).
